This reflective work, only five minutes in length, was written to be reverently simple and this can be heard in the mostly diatonic melodic and harmonic palette. Formally, the work is ternary, though both the middle section and the refrain are short in relation to the very elongated opening section that features an extended viola introduction before the entrance of the woodwinds. The work ends with the viola ascending, via harmonics, to the very top of its range as if reaching towards the heavens.
